Compare space, running costs and the setting
For a home with extensive living space, establish how much of it you will use every day. Compare the placement of bedrooms, the route between the garage and kitchen, work-from-home space and the relationship between indoor rooms and outdoor entertaining areas. A floor plan that works well can matter more than an extra room on paper.
Outdoor features deserve their own review. If a home includes a pool, summer kitchen or substantial landscaping, ask about condition, servicing and replacement needs. Confirm utility connections and any private systems at the address. Where a listing describes a lake view or waterfront position, examine the survey and any recorded access arrangements before making those features central to your decision.
